Ebook About
Enter the dark and sensual realms of the Black Jewels, a world where power always has a price, in this sweeping story in the New York Times bestselling fantasy saga.   They are Warlord Princes, men born to serve and protect. They are the Queen's Weapons, men born to destroy the Queen's enemies--no matter what face that enemy wears.   Daemonar Yaslana knows how to be bossy yet supportive--traits he shares with his father, the Demon Prince, and his uncle, the High Lord of Hell. Within his generation of the family, he assumes the role of protector, supporting his sister Titian’s artistic efforts and curbing his cousin Jaenelle Saetien’s more adventurous ideas. But when a young Eyrien Queen, someone Titian thought was a friend, inflicts an emotional wound, Daemonar's counterattack brings him under the tutelage of Witch, the Queen whose continued existence is known only to a select few.   As Daemonar is confronted by troubling changes within and around the family, he sees warnings that a taint in the Blood might be reappearing.  Daemonar, along with his father and uncle, must uncover the source of a familiar evil--and Daemon Sadi, the High Lord of Hell, may be forced into making a terrible choice.

Book The Queen's Weapons (Black Jewels Book 11) Review :

Like many fans, I struggled with Daemon and Surreal's relationship especially after The Queen's Bargain. This book picks up on those same uneasy feelings. But while Surreal goes back to Second in Command status and tries to redeem herself, the focus in this books is on Jaenelle Satien. There are hints of what Jaenelle turns out to be in The Queen's Bargain, of wanting to be special to the exclusion of everything else. This book takes that theme and continues it. For fans, this book will grab your attention and won't let go as it holds you in suspense - Does Jaenelle survive the reckoning? But as captivating as that is, I can't help but feel sad. Like my favorite characters are slowly being assassinated. There's flashbacks of the taint from the original trilogy, and an attempt to revisit Saeten's fatherly role with the coven, only now with Lucifer & Daemon as the father figures. But it feels somewhat stale, like an idea that is reused vs character development. And Jaenelle Satian feels like an immature, spoiled childish character who is never allowed to grow. I don't understand why she is so blind and shallow, given that her family have experience training adolescents to honor the Old Ways. I don't understand why she is so ignorant, why she is so stupid without any redeeming qualities. I get that she is part of a long-lived species and matures slowly, but her character just lacks nuance. And that makes me sad. How can I reread the happier moments knowing the sad ending that awaits everyone?
The original trilogy stands apart as an epic story, while this latest installment continues the trend of being smaller and more "domestic".I find it difficult to reconcile the characters here with their original versions. Warlord Princes rise to the killing edge for every little thing and apparently can't control themselves at all (or so the text keeps insisting, I lost track of how often we're reminded of how dangerous and unpredictable everyone is. This is really jarring since actually everyone controls themselves just fine in practice, and no one ever loses control, not even the bad guys)Daemon seems clueless about raising a teenager, and Surreal is mostly absent and uncaring as a mother (at the same time, the text insists she loves her more than anything, which creates another jarring disconnect as her actions don't back this up).Surreal herself has undergone strange transformations during the series, and is no longer the strong woman with integrity that she was. She thankfully has not been reduced to the whiny, weak, untrusting version of the last book, but at the same time Ms Bishop seems to be rapidly back pedaling on Surreal's feelings for Daemon. Apparently we're now to believe she never loved him as a husband. This supposedly makes it ok that Daemon is not committed to her and is emotionally unfaithful with Witch, his one true love. I found this hard to swallow.Personally, I also dislike the one true soul mate trope. If you live for millennia, why can't you find a second soul mate after the first dies? Is your heart so small you can't find it in yourself to love again? Apparently it's not ok here. If that is the cases, I wonder why everyone except Surreal gets a chance to find this one true love?Having the overpowered, loved, amazing Mary Sue Jaenelle come back yet again does the story no favors. If I think of what stories Ms Bishop could have explored by letting her stay dead... Alas, it's not to be. What a wasted opportunity! In summary, expect a story of teenage angst coupled with Daemon, Lucivar and Surreal struggling to get the upper hand against evil kids. It's a wonder the world of the blood wasn't destroyed aeons ago given that no one can deal with children.
